In the interest of your better health we would like to advise all our patients of the article that appeared in the Gold Coast Bulletin dated Tuesday 24th February 2015.

“Mozzies put bite on city epidemic” (page4)

Doctor’s are warning that Ross River virus is on the increase and will only get worse. The Ross River virus is transmitted by the bite of an infected mosquito, particularly those found in freshwater. With all the wet weather of late mosquitoes are breeding and an epidemic outbreak is expected.

Symptoms:

  • Fever
  • Serious joint pain often with swelling
  • Fatigue
  • Skin Rash

Mozzie Bite Prevention Tips:

  • Use insect repellent
  • Wear protective clothing
  • Don’t allow water to become stagnant. The GCCC monitors breeding in public places, but be vigilant around your home and take precautions. Don’t allow water to become stagnant in your yard as this is where mosquitoes love to breed.
