Conditions that cause Gas, Wind & Bload
What are the conditions that may lead you to have Gas, Wind and Bloat, which is so painful, and gives you, in most cases, a swollen stomach and a look that the men can be heavy beer drinkers and it can make the women appear as though they are pregnant.
Constipation is difficulty having bowel movements often for days and in extreme cases weeks on end. Constipation can have many different reasons like lifestyle, not getting enough fibre, fluid, exercise, or fresh food. Medications and medical conditions (colon issues, neurological disorders, and metabolic problems) can play a part in the problem. Constipation can leave fermented food in our Large or Small Intestines creating gas, wind, and bloat.
On the Bristol Stool Chart types 1 and 2 indicate constipation. Separate hard lumps that look like nuts or marbles. The stool may present as a sausage shape cluster of these lumps.
Diarrhoea is the opposite to constipation. It includes more frequent bowel movements and / or more watery stools. Diarrhoea, especially chronic diarrhoea, can make you dehydrated, and it can also cause an imbalance of electrolytes.
- Common trigger foods that can cause diarrhoea include:
simple carbohydrates - Sugar alcohols (e.g. sorbitol)
- Coffee or soft drinks
- Alcohol
- Gas producing foods (beans, cruciferous, certain vegetables)
Taking probiotics increase the friendly bacteria of your gut and may help with Diarrhoea.
On the Bristol Stool Chart types 6 and 7 indicate a Diarrhoea problem. Diarrhoea can be fluffy pieces with ragged edges, a mushy stool. Or watery, no solid pieces at all – entirely liquid.
To restore both fluid and electrolyte imbalances drinking something like “Gatorade or Powerade” can be beneficial.
