Many of us on the Gold Coast are fighting against the decision made by Warren Truss before he retired to allow a flight path over 60,000 homes on the seafront.

Apart from health issues of noise and fumes over this beautiful pristine coastline, we learnt last week of the dangers of land and water contamination from the firefighting foam.

Following the disturbing findings of Fiskville and Williamtown where towns have been put under a code red from PFC contamination and warned not to drink or use the water or eat produce from the contaminated area, we are now learning that the Gold coast Airport has been exposed as having similar contamination, yet none of our citizens have been warned.

One of the speakers at a the meeting last week was Dr Mariann Lloyd-Smith, Senior Advisor to the National Toxics Network and IPEN, an international public interest NGO. Member of the UN Expert Group on Climate change and chemicals. When we have speakers of that calibre we have to listen for the benefit of our health and that of our neighbours.

There are groups in the Tweed area worried about the extension of the runways into environmentally sensitive land that will affect waterways, fish and Bilinga bore water.
