Lavender – Natures Insect Repellant

Lavender

There are so many insect repellents on the market, that you will wonder why I include this in my blogs list. But when you read the ingredients that are in some of these manufactured products, it is a frightening thought to put them onto the skin of young children, the ingredients are so toxic, and the children’s skin is so porous that they absorb them easily.

You can make an insect repellent by dissolving 10 drops of Lavender in 5ml of Vodka and then blending this mixture with ¼ cup of water. Store in a tightly sealed bottle or a perfumed atomiser. Just spray onto exposed skin and rub in well. If you attract those biting midgies or mozzies more than most, you may adjust your repellent by increasing the amount of your essential oil – an extra 10 to 15 drops should be sufficient. If your skin is very sensitive or you suffer eczema blend 10 drops of Lavender essential oil with 30 ml of almond oil. Store in airtight amber –coloured glass bottle. If the smell of the Lavender is not strong enough, keep adding the oil a drop at a time until the mixture is the desired strength. Use within 2 months.
